Airport PickupWe arrived in Japan at 3:55pm on Tuesday, August 21st. Jeff had to go through customs as a foreigner (the long line), while Nozomi, Zack and Ellie went through the short "Japanese Nationals" line. (Did you know that Zack and Ellie are dual U.S.-Japanese citizens, each carrying two passports?).

After customs, we were picked up by our friends, Dorrie Takazawa and her daughter, who eased our transition to Japan by renting a van to carry us and our stuff to their house in Tokyo. We enjoyed dinner with the Takazawa family.

Jet lag has begun to set in and we will be needing a nice cup of coffee later today.

Following breakfast at the Takazawas, we have big plans today. Jeff needs to register as an alien in this new country. (Turnabout is fair play.) Nozomi and the kids need to do some paperwork, too. We will do this at our city government office.

Then we get to do some of the following:

  • buy some needed items (fridge, bedding, lights) and have them shipped to our new house;
  • set up our national health insurance accounts;
  • learn how to get to Zack's school
  • begin searching for a Japanese kindergarten for Ellie;
  • open the windows at our new place to air it out (new paint and wallpaper).

All so we can have a ministry of presence in Higashi Kurume (NW Tokyo), Japan.
